The Tortoise is another creation by Dawn Frasier, originator of Jomby, the incredible mobile tiki hut. Dawn painted an old VW Beetle owned by her friend Faye, carefully adding the tortoise-shell texture to the car's finish, and decorating the vehicle with curvilinear leaf forms and intricate interlaced patterns from traditional Polynesian art.

With its sleepy-lidded headlights, the Tortoise is a familiar sight on the silly streets of Seattle. Freshly repainted for the first-ever Seattle Art Car Parade in July'97, it promises to crawl along the roads for many a year to come.
