This incredible sedan was hand-crafted on a Chevy Citation chassis by metal sculptor Kim David Hall. The Amphibitron features galvanized steel tailfins, rusty hooks and chains dangling from its bumpers, and a mind-boggling assortment of faux military hardware. Fully convertible, the car is equipped with the latest Pentagon-approved ATAT (Audio Target Acquisition Transducer) technology. [The Transducer is the large oogah-horn visible on the hood.] The Amphibitron's main armament consists of twin 40 mm machine guns mounted on the hood--a scary sight in your rearview mirror! The vehicle fairly bristles with secondary armament, including a grease gun mounted on the passenger side door; a harpoon gun with special jump-seat; and an evil-looking assortment of searchlights, sirens, gauges, louvers, stenciled instructions in pseudo-military lingo, and miles of rusty metal cowling.
The Amphibitron has been a regular at Seattle art car events since 1997, with its cracked creator at the wheel and his cute young daughter in the jump-seat, waving and mugging for the crowd. This fearsome sled was part of the June 3, 2001 Art Car expo at the Tacoma Art Museum, itself part of a traveling Smithsonian exhibit of contemporary folk art.
