A Unique Alternative Space in Belltown

It's a laundromat! It's a nightclub! It's a game room! It's an internet cafe! It's a lunchroom! It's a meeting place for the cognoscenti. It's SIT'N'SPIN, a unique community space which has held down the same spot on Fourth Avenue in Belltown with the familiar atomic model suspended over the doorway and the scents of fresh-brewed espresso and dryer exhaust mingling not unpleasantly outside.

The decor is so retro -- recycled industrial, in fact. Electrical conduit and accordion-pleated dryer hoses dangle from the ceiling. Mirror balls and decapitated Barbies are showered by machine-blown soap bubbles. Garlands of magnetic recording tape sway in the breeze from tiled pagoda roofs. One wall is tiled with puzzle pieces; another with old game boards. Vintage formica and lava lamps are everywhere. It's an experience no Seattleite should be without!

As befits a venue so committed to the performing arts, Sit'n'Spin maintains a diverting collection of visual art as well. Such indispensable street artists as ROMAN, Larry Steiner and Tammy Campbell are represented. Visit the links below to view highlights of the SIT'n'SPIN collection.
