Seattle Art Car Blowout 2002 will provide the following services and amenities to participating Cartists:

Gas money: Most or all of your gas money will be reimbursed to you at or shortly after the Festival.
Accommodation: We will provide free accommodation (nothing fancy, may be a couch or even a patch of floor) for those who need it.
Food: We'll have free food at the Friday barbecue, before the parade on Sunday, and at the after-party Sunday night. We will also provide a limited amount of free food and beer during the weekend, at the discretion of the Fremont Fair.
Guaranteed Parking: We will have excellent placement on N. 35th Street, one block from the Fremont Solstice Parade. So that you can watch the parade, you will be asked to surrender your keys and our parking jockeys will maneuver your car into position while the parade is in progress. (Our car expo space doubles as a staging area for the Solstice Parade Saturday morning.)
Bathroom Facilities: There will be port-a-potties near the exhibition space and bathrooms in the Foundry available during car expo hours. There is a public restroom located a few minutes' walk from the parade rally area (Golden Gardens Park in Ballard).
Entertainment: Will be provided by our house band, the PHENOMENAUTS, an outer-space rockabilly group from San Francisco, and by numerous other bands and performing troupes throughout the weekend.

Complete driving directions and a printed schedule will be mailed to all registered participants approximately two weeks before the Blowout.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Friday June 21: Potluck Bar-B-Q and Check-In, 6 - 9 PM
at Kelly Lyles' Home, 5029 - 26th Ave SW, West Seattle
Come as you are! Bring food if you wish; burgers, franks, condiments, rolls, and salad will be provided; bring your own beverages. Meet and mingle, tell us about your trip, find out where you'll be staying, get updates on the festival weekend.

Friday June 21: Twisted Houses Tour, 9 PM til ? ? ?
Back by popular demand! Visit some really strange homes owned by our members and friends. Guaranteed: not a dull moment!

Saturday June 22: Load-In to Parade Grounds, 10-11 AM
Enter via Phinney Avenue North. Cars will be parked along N. 35th between Phinney and 1st Ave. NW
; however, you may be asked to temporarily park your vehicle on blocks eastward of Phinney so that we can accommodate the staging of the Solstice Parade, which shares our space through 1 PM or so. You may drop your keys with our parking gurus and join the fun watching the Solstice Parade; they'll take care of parking your car for maximum effect while you're giggling at Seattle's silliness and ogling our nude bikers. Solstice Parade kicks off at noon (they do not allow powered vehicles to participate). NOTE: You must be on site by 11 AM or you will not be allowed in. This is because of street closures for the Solstice Parade.

Saturday Afternoon: Pageant and Fair

Our cars will remain on display all afternoon and evening. Following the Fremont Solstice Parade, there will be a pageant featuring costumed ensembles, a band, and giant puppets at Gas Works Park, 1/2 mile from the fair grounds. The Fremont Fair will be rocking all weekend with lots of free concerts, street buskers, food and crafts booths. And our own Phenomenauts will be performing at the Fair--a very danceable, ace R&B band. Enjoy!

Saturday Evening: Party Down!
Fremont is one big floating party after the Solstice Parade! There will be an (admission charged) party at the FUNC (Fremont Unconventional Center), and our hands-down recommended bash, Steve Anderson's studio party right on the street where we're on display. This is a bare-bones sculpture studio and foundry in a condemned house, Fremont the way it used to be before yuppie landlords came in and wrecked it. Kegs, bands, dancing, fun; come prepared to roll up the carpet and ring in the dawn!

Sunday Morning: Rally for Parade, 10 AM
at Golden Gardens Park, Upper Parking Lot (just east of Burlington Northern- Santa Fe tracks)

Golden Gardens, start of our parade route.

Our parade route starts along Shilshole Bay.
We'll have plenty of hot coffee, fresh chai, pastry and fruits (and, yes, bathroom facilities) at our parade rally point in a lovely, wooded park in Ballard. Emcee Don Ehlen will announce the Order of Parade, then we'll form up and stream out through the Shilshole marina/recreation area and on through Ballard into Fremont. For route map, click here. As usual, this will be a police-escorted parade. Automatic street closures mean we won't get cut up at stoplights or by other motorists horning in. 4.2 miles at a steady 20 mph. We'll ask you to pull over for a few seconds to shuck and jive with the radio announcer where we turn off Market Street in the center of Ballard. We'll end up at the same display space we occupied the day before, along N. 35th Street in Fremont.
Parade Departure Time: ~11: 15 AM.   Finish: ~11:45 AM.

Sunday Afternoon: Car Expo @ Fremont Fair
N. 35th between Phinney Ave. N and 1st Ave. NW

Once again, we'll be a featured exhibit through 5 PM. Then we'll strike our tents. Those who wish to may leave for their return journey. But those who want to are invited to stick around for . . .

Sunday Evening: After Party at Tom & Denise's, 6 PM til ? ? ?
4240 S. Bateman St., Seattle (just off Rainier Ave. S, Columbia City area)
Come join us for a wonderful dinner party and much more at Tom & Denise's Artistic Abode in Seattle's colorful, multi-ethnic South End! We'll reminisce and build our community over food and drink in a bohemian atmosphere.

Complete driving directions and a printed schedule have been mailed to all registered participants.  Driving directions are also available on line. Watch our site for updates!
