NINA LAND is the
creation of Dr. Nina Livingstone, a Seattle pediatrician. Nina created funky designs all
over her Toyota Corolla by gluing plastic figurines and action figures into
patterns. Her roof sprouts a forest of synthetic heads and limbs, as Gumby
dolls break dance and do the Wave with vampires and GI Joes.
NINA LAND features
a dashboard diorama
complete with jitney buses and a thatched-roof market at the seashore, a
road and hills (the hump over the instrument panel).Fringe and stars deck
the windshield; pineapples accent the rear bumper; turtles ascend one quarter
panel, and frogs the other. The hood (shown) is a symmetrical composition
with Barbie dolls being attacked by sharks
arranged into a mandala formation at center,
a la Busby Berklee, while nuns and men in fezzes alternate down the pearl-strewn
sides of the hood, and an image of Confucius takes center stage at the radiator cap position. You talk
about eclectic! This pleasantly zany vehicle makes its home on Capitol
Hill.
