 Praxis Artists, the artistic arm of Not In Our Name--Seattle, is a collective of autonomous artists who conspire creatively to challenge and change today's climate of political conformity.  The collective seeks to counter the U.S. government's unjust "war on terrorism," used to cover global coercion from Afghanistan to Iraq to the very streets of Seattle, where minority members are being harassed, rounded up, and held without charges.

Some NW projects and events that you should be aware of...
and that you should support by joining up with, contacting, spreading the word...

Not In Our Name CD project
This CD project is in support of the principles of the NION project:

No! War on the World, 
No! Detentions and Round-Ups of Immigrants and Activists, 
No! Police State Restrictions, 
No! US War on Terrorism, 
No! War on Iraq.... 

The project coordinators are still taking submissions for songs/spoken word to go on the CD. Any artists interested in getting involved in this project, to be released in the next couple of months, should contact pobox41474@graffiti.net

Not In Our Name Poster Series
Artists will be getting together in the next couple of weeks to create the first few posters for a new art poster series supporting the same general ideas listed above. We are seeking any visual artists, text designers, and graphic artists who want to be involved in an ongoing campaign of creating really good art with a message--and distributing it: from posting on poles and getting them in stores and businesses to starting poster exchanges with other cities. We will have our first meeting before Buy Nothing Day (11/29) and N30. Any interested artists should contact praxisartists@yahoo.com and we will make sure you get an invitation. Start clipping good graphics, quotes, thoughts, info, and images now and bring them to the first art session. And feel free to send ideas, suggestions, queries, requests our way.

Other projects include globes and globe lanterns for the Million Globes Campaign; a labyrinth-collage of a thousand children's photos to commemorate the thousands of lives lost daily to U.S. sanctions; a blue triangle banner for the Jan. 13 protest against forced INS registration of immigrants; and flyers for the Jan. 20 Martin Luther King Day event.
