Strutting self-assurance and tastefully tacky accessories are trademarks of Seattle's own artiste and bohemienne, Kelly Lyles. A colorful character, this redhead is famous for her spotted car, Leopard Bernstein, her second art car (a spoof of women's fashion accessories, and her off-the-wall on-the-road antics. Growling, snarling and making swipes with her long-nailed paws, Kelly is an instant hit with the younger spectactors at Art Car parades. In keeping with her flamboyant persona is Kelly's LIVE-LIVE-LIVE private life, rockin' and roaring through a ceaseless round of parties, art openings, and art car events. Somehow she finds time to do the necessary at her home in West Seattle, producing graphics and fine art in a remarkably restrained, yet subtly kitschy studio. All in all, Kelly has one of those out-there personalities which make Seattle's art scene so boho and phat. Visit Kelly's web site, Kelly's Spot!
Leopard Bernstein, Kelly Lyles and the other fun-lovin' Art Car Artists gathered in Seattle for Blow-Out 2000 will be seen on the Speedvision Network TV program Car Crazy this coming August. Kelly was instrumental in organizing this wonderful gathering of kooky cars at the annual Fremont Fair. Seattle's art cars were featured recently on Channel 5's Evening Magazine; Kelly and "Bernie" also led the art car caravan from the Northwest to the San Francisco Art Car Fest in September '99. This epic journey was featured on Cable TV's Travel Channel in March and April, 2000 in a glowing half-hour tribute to Kelly's individual personality and art. Kelly herself has been featured in a front-page article in the Seattle Times (6/22/99) leading up to Art Car Blow-Out '99, and also in the 10/5/99 issue of Women's World.
