HOLY COW is one of the many bovine
decorations for the Moo Room, the kitsch-cluttered
dairy bar at Mae's Phinney Ridge Cafe, just north of the Woodland Park Zoo.
Mike Wood of 3-D Productions created the comic
cow and other statuettes seen in the room, inspired by a hilariously campy
mural of Cows in Heaven painted by Sarah Knopp
on the Moo Room wall. Mike drew upon her characters, fleshing them out in
molded plastic and carefully matching his pastel colors to the room's existing
decor.
Mike is among Seattle's pre-eminent Kitschmeisters,
having sculpted creepily realistic dinosaurs for Archie McPhee's Joke Shop,
the Harvard Espresso Bar, and Twice Sold Tales on Capitol Hill, as well
as the mid-Victorian rocket ship crashed through the North wall of Rocket
Pizza. And - not least - he fabricated the Happy Face sign seen in our Seattle Kitsch logo and our Art Car Squadron banner (following a design by Brad Carlton). SASS uses Happy Face with the permission of Happy Go Latte, Seattle. Watch our Gallery for a feature on Mike's work!
