Daniel "Claypatch" Johnson built this religious shrine of a car around Virgin of Guadalupe souvenirs from Mexico.
The Immaculate Corolla was just a beat-up bit of "basic transportation" until Daniel and his then-girlfriend Michelle took paintbrush and glue gun to it, giving it a transcendant shot at automotive immortality. Virgin of Guadalupe tapestries, used as a basis for hood adornments, were purchased right down the street at Archie McPhee's, and were cut and glued to the car, then painted with 1-Shot enamels, trimmed with Mardi Gras beads, and finished with plastic crosses. On the sides are icon paintings of Jesus and Mary. Religious statuettes cover the dashboard, and votive candles in glass jars line the bumpers. |
