* STORM * KING * MOUNTAIN *
and the Hudson Narrows
For some 20 miles around West Point, from Haverstraw north to Beacon, New York, the Hudson River cuts through a magnificent gorge, lined with forested slopes and granite precipices. At no time is the rugged landscape - so beloved by the Hudson River School painters - grander than on an autumn morning. Here we see curls of morning mist drifting past Storm King's bald dome, while wisps of "sea smoke" emanate from the swiftly flowing river. Jet vapor trails crisscrossing overhead complete this inspiring panorama.
