Snoqualmie Falls in spring light, with huge rainbow
With a vertical drop of 186 feet, Snoqualmie Falls, just half an hour’s drive east of Seattle in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, is a gorgeous sight. Its flow is much reduced from the days when it served as the chief temple of the Snoqualmie Tribe, who bathed in its mists as an act of worship; for since 1890 it has been the site of a huge hydroelectric plant, deep within the rock behind the falls.
