The lovely topsail schooner Juan Sebastian de Elcano, pride of the Spanish Navy, was built in 1927 and named for Magellan's navigator, a Spaniard who carried on and completed the first voyage of circumnavigation after Magellan himself was killed in the Philippines. One of the largest and most graceful of the sail training ships in service today, the vessel is pictured here at Boston during a Tall Ships parade in 1980, celebrating the 350th anniversary of the city's founding.
Above, members of the Elcano's crew relax on board during their Boston visit.
