Where I Hang My Hat

Weed Building, from the front

Here are a couple of shots of my groovy Pad in the (appropriately named) Weed Building. The building is located squarely in the middle of Columbia City's downtown, on Rainier Ave. S, between Lottie's Lounge and the Columbia City Alehouse (green building visible at right). Though I joke that I can get loaded in any of a half-dozen bars and still crawl home, I've given up booze and will never test this out. The first floor is retail space, including an East African handicrafts shop, a trendy boutique, and an African-American specialty barbershop. I'm on the second (top) floor facing out the back. These pix were done a while ago and improvements have been made since, but the basic layout remains the same. I shot the rear end of the apt. using the nice ambient light through the back windows in the morning; the remainder of the apt. is so dark I had to use flash. It is OK; more personal space than I've had in many years, at a price I can easily afford. This leaves me with surplus funds that can be spent more rewardingly than on overpriced shelter!

has been refined since this shot was done, with DVD player, switchbox wiring, new rabbit ears and new TV. Stereo is at left, atop the dresser. I recently put up 2 new shelves for CDs and another one for my wireless router. Silk Persian prayer rug, part of the Horace bequest, on the floor; Ella Fitzgerald poster on wall.

Bathroom

was the shabbiest part of the whole place when I took it over in 2005. I have it looking clean & presentable now. One of my assemblage mirrors hangs on the wall.
