A Q U A - M O B I L E

AQUA MOBILE by Don Ehlen - Berkeley, 2002
The AQUA MOBILE is the creation of Don Ehlen, a Seattle-based entomologist and educator. The car is   a great example of a simple concept art car, basically just a great paint job, although 3-D features have begun to creep in: a fully inflated plastic blowfish atop the radio antenna, a crab creeping out over the rear license plate, and a red plastic lobster draped over the hood centerline over the front license plate. Tropical fish are stenciled on both sides of the vehicle, originally on a flat royal blue background. Water textures have been added over the years, and the fish have become more detailed with repaintings and touch-ups as time has gone by. Simplicity, anatomic accuracy, and elegance are the hallmarks of this beautiful Art Car.

AQUA MOBILE by Don Ehlen - Detail of Art The AQUA MOBILE has been seen regularly with the Seattle Art Cars since its creation.  It was seen in the Greenwood Seafair Parade in 2001, at the 2001 and -02 Blowouts in Seattle (where Don played a key role as Parking Czar), and at the shows at the Snohomish County Art Center in Everett on 9/13/01 and 5/26/02.  Don also traveled to Houston, Vancouver, Minneapolis,  and San Francisco to show the car in the past year (2002). Betimes he has co-produced the Seattle Art Car Blow-out in the twenty-ought decade.
