Steve Walker created this five-wheeled custom vehicle in homage to postwar Italian racing cars.
The Alfa Special is a low-slung, Ferrari-style roadster with open cockpit and a sidecar, in which Steve's dog, Bruno, is accustomed to ride. Bruno, a black Lab retriever, wears goggles and a long red scarf for his excursions, such as the trip to the Tacoma Art Museum in 2001 in which he ended up appearing on Good Morning America. The art car show was the feature of the Museum's Family Fun Fest, a Sunday afternoon participatory event in conjunction with the appearance of the Smithsonian's traveling exhibition on Contemporary Folk Art. |
